NACUA’s bi-annual General Counsel Institute provides an intimate, members-only opportunity for in-house general counsel and deputy general counsel to learn from, network with, and recharge alongside their peers. This year’s Institute will take place in Denver, CO, and will explore a myriad of evolving challenges faced by principal in-house counsel to support them in Turning Complexity into Strategy.
The Institute weaves four dynamic plenaries throughout the robust three-day program:
Wednesday
An opening plenary foregrounds Trends in Higher Education from Presidential Perspectives.
Thursday
Mid-workshop plenaries tackle the evergreen issues of Navigating Board Relationships and Strategic Leadership.
Friday
The closing plenary will feature a special conversation on Free Speech on Campus with Dean Erwin Chemerinsky and Howard Gillman, co-authors of the seminal tome by the same name.
In addition to addressing these trends, the Institute will probe both emerging and perennial practice challenges, including:

- The Future of Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, and Belonging.

The Institute will also feature discussion groups to work through timely and sensitive topics with peers in real time, such as Data Security and Breaches, Navigating Unhealthy Working Environments, and more.
In addition, the program will include two receptions for informal opportunities to network and enrich peer-to-peer connections.
Please note that registration for GCI is limited to NACUA members currently serving as either the general counsel/chief legal officer or deputy general counsel of a higher education institution. Attorneys general who serve as institutional general counsel or who are designated as a primary representative of a member institution are also eligible to attend. As a reminder, the Institute is not recorded in order to foster unfettered, off-the-record, candid dialogue amongst those who serve in these uniquely challenging roles.
